Transform Everyday into an Opportunity for Growth and Joy
Recently, while navigating Bangalore’s rain-soaked and congested roads, I noticed a rare sense of camaraderie among drivers. Despite the slow-moving traffic, people were patient and kind—car drivers allowing two-wheelers to pass, bikers being considerate of others, and police officers working to ensure everyone got through safely. It was a reminder that even in difficult situations, we can embrace the present and go above frustration through understanding and cooperation. Why is it that during challenging times, we often transcend our usual behavior? Whether it’s the pandemic, a financial recession, or any other external challenge, we tend to push ourselves toward positivity. Yet, isn’t life a daily challenge? What weighs us down, and why should we maintain enthusiasm in the present?
Accepting Life’s Challenges
Not all challenges are easy to accept. However, succumbing to negativity and despair is not a solution. By opening our hearts to even one positive thought each day and placing our faith in something greater than ourselves, we can unlock possibilities beyond our imagination.
Hardships and Perspective
In a TEDx talk, Shawn Achor, an advocate of positive psychology, shared that only 10% of our happiness is influenced by external circumstances, while 90% is shaped by our internal belief systems. I spent two decades letting external factors dictate my life, leading to irreplaceable losses in time and financial security. Despite this, I choose to believe in my ability to overcome hardships, secure my financial future, and continually strive for fearlessness, better judgment, and happiness.
Challenging Limiting Beliefs
We all have limiting beliefs. Currently, I’m reading a book on ambiguity, and even though it makes me uncomfortable, it’s helping me confront my desire for predictability. Unlike other books, which I might finish in a couple of weeks, I’m taking this one slowly, congratulating myself on each page I complete.
Finding Joy in Life
Life isn’t just about being passionate about work or material success. It’s about finding joy in the small things—whether it’s building a stable life for your family, finding your dream job, or simply enjoying a hot cup of coffee. Love must be cultivated within, so it can be reflected outwardly. As Dr. Vasanth Lad writes in Ayurveda: The Science of Self-Healing, “Love is the essence of life.”
Surrendering to a Higher Power
When external circumstances feel overwhelming, spiritually inclined individuals often suggest surrendering to a higher power through consistent prayer. In a story from Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu shows Narad Muni, who claimed to be His greatest devotee, a farmer who constantly sings God’s praises while completing his daily tasks. Narad Muni eventually relinquishes his claim, recognizing that devotion lies in the farmer’s ability to remember the divine amidst his worldly duties.
Embracing Enthusiasm and Joy
Learning to meditate without fear has been a personal journey. I motivate myself to meditate without fear, and within seconds, I find myself smiling. This practice, inspired by a Buddhist monk, has made me more active, joyful, and aligned with my true self. It has also enhanced my business acumen, improved my relationships, and allowed me to experience life with greater enthusiasm. Enthusiasm, I’ve found, prevents me from feeling drained, enabling me to keep pace with life while enjoying its best moments.
The journey isn’t easy. It requires a blend of science and faith. At Creative Jii Training, we support individuals through challenging circumstances with our coaching sessions, no matter where they are in their careers.
It’s a fitting coincidence to share this blog on Krishna Janmashtami, a day celebrating a divine figure who faced life’s trials with a smile. I hope you find the light within yourself to navigate the challenges of life with the same grace.
We wish you a joyous Krishna Janmashtami. May Krishna’s divine joy fill every corner of your being.
